This will be a short post and just to warn, there may contain some spoilers so if you haven’t seen either, I’d advise you not to read on.
I have literally just come back from watching Skyfall and really did enjoy it. However, having seen The Dark Knight Rises earlier in the year, I couldn’t help but think there were some similarities between the two of them. Mainly in the story line and the characters involved. Alas, they are only a couple of similarities but still.
Firstly, both of the protagonists, Bruce Wayne and James Bond both share a similar trait of being beaten men. Mainly Bruce Wayne as he has to ‘rise’ essentially, but James Bond’s broken, beaten men is when he is trying to get back to grips of being an agent. Then they both obviously try to get back to their old states.
Another similarity I found was the the protagonist and antagonist were both similar characters, both excelling in similar fields and just as good as each other in every way. Both Bond and Silva both came from the same academy when trying to be agents for the MI6 and of course, the similarity lies in both Bruce Wayne or Batman and Bane both sharing the idea of being in the shadows and being trained by the League of Shadows.
And of course, both of the protagonists being one step behind, or being beaten mentally by both of the villains in the films is interesting. Bond got beat by Silva’s masterplan mentally and Batman got beat by Bane’s superior strength, breaking him physically and spiritually. There is a weakness that both of the villains are left open to be exploited too, Silva’s being that when it comes to actually trying to kill M, he fails and tries to get it to they are both killed together which leaves Bond being able to kill him first. Bane’s too is something similar in the sense that Bane’s care for Talia al Ghul stops him putting in the vital blows into Batman, that and the fact he’s practically dying from the breathing, before Talia fixes him.
I suppose, I just found it interesting as when I was watching the films, these certain areas just made of think The Dark Knight Rises. If there any more points or anything you would like to add, I’d love to hear your thoughts and whether you thought the same? Thank you for reading all the same.
